Environmental improvements have been made to Bowling Park by a team of our colleagues, who joined forces with local community group Friends of Bowling Park.

Our team of six volunteers worked under the guidance of Friends of Bowling Park volunteer George Taylor to complete a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the park’s natural beauty and community spaces. Activities included painting park benches, repairing the three bears’ picnic table and refurbishing some of the park’s signage.

Urban Ranger Kristian Eastwood of Better Place Bradford and volunteers from East and West Bowling also joined the team. The volunteers spent the afternoon clearing rubbish to transform an area which can now be used to host a variety of new community workshops and wellbeing sessions.

Bowling Park was selected for the volunteering initiative due to its proximity to the Birkshall Gas Site, off Bowling Back Lane, where N-Gen is investing millions of pounds as a partner in one of the UK’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling stations.

Karen Sroda, Business Administrator at N-Gen Energy Solutions and organiser of the day, said:

“Following our first volunteering day in June, we recognised there was so much more that we could do to help improve this wonderful urban park. Some original members of the N-Gen volunteering team were joined by new members, and we were particularly thrilled to be able to help make a difference by clearing a dis-used area to create a new space for extra community activities.”

George Taylor, a Volunteer for Friends of Bowling Park who took part in the day said :

 “These volunteer days are so good for the park and our morale; having the extra people power to achieve bigger tasks makes a significant impact. We’re incredibly grateful for the N-Gen support.

Kristian Eastwood of Better Place Bradford, a project that oversees improvements to local outdoor spaces to provide healthier and happier environments for families said

“A huge thank you to the N-Gen team for their invaluable support in replacing the Three Bears’ tabletop in the Story Trail. It’s been a project of patience and persistence, but with N-Gen’s extra hands, expertise, and equipment, a tricky task was brought to a successful and satisfying finish.”
